Instructional Programs for Reading
In our classroom, we use the Indiana Journeys program as a foundation for our weekly reading routine. Please see below for specific ways that you can help your child learn and grow from week to week.
We also have adopted the CAFE model as a way of targeting each student's instruction and learning station assignments. CAFE stands for the following:
C Comprehension (of both stories and informational text) A Accuracy (phonics/decoding) F Fluency (reading rate, phrasing, expression, etc.) E Expand Vocabulary (word knowledge and use)
In addition, we incorporate the Fountas and Pinnell Guided Reading assessments and strategies to ensure that reading materials for instruction and "Read to Self" times are at each student's "just right" level for optimum growth.
