Accessibility Design Guidelines

Our website has been designed with the following accessibility guidelines in mind:
  • The standard font used throughout the site has been chosen to be easily legible.
  • Wherever possible, we use live text instead of graphics for all relevant, useful, and important information to increase ease of access.
  • Our website has been designed to dynamically adjust to your monitor resolution so that it is viewable using most devices.
  • No information is exclusively conveyed using color. This doesn't mean that colors are not used to organize information; instead it means there are also other, non-color dependent ways of doing this. We utilize high contrast colors in order to increase readability and have based our color palette to be easily readable under most forms of color-blindness.
  • All images and hyperlinks, where appropriate, have an alternative text attribute. This means when an image or hyperlink is conveying important information its content is described with an alternative text.
  • We have attempted specifically to comply with Section 508 referring to website accessibility standards.
If you have difficulty accessing the site or have any comments or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact our webmaster using the link at the bottom of any page.

Volunteer Background Checks

PLEASE CONTACT MRS. FUERNSTEIN WITH ANY QUESTIONS (812-623-2235 EXT 15904)

To all Sunman Elementary Volunteers:

ANY volunteer that is in the building to work with children, attend classroom parties or go on fieldtrips, will need to have a background check completed and on file here at Sunman Elementary BEFORE they can volunteer.  Both background checks are good for 5 years.  the office will keep a current list of the volunteers that have completed these requirements.  These background checks transfer between schools if you have more than one student in our district.  Outside background checks CANNOT be accepted.

If the volunteer is under the DIRECT supervision of a Sunman Employee AT ALL TIMES they will need to have a limited background check at NO COST to them. We will need your full legal name and date of birth. There is a release form in the office that will need to be signed before the limited background check can be processed.  Please see Mrs. Fuernstein in the office for the form.

If the volunteer will AT ANY TIME be in charge of children outside of the classroom for any reason or without the DIRECT supervision of a Sunman Employee, they will need to have an extended background check that the volunteer will need to pay for (cost is currently $18)  This is done online through Safe Hiring Solutions.  Please call Mrs. Fuernstein in the office (812-623-2235 ext 15904) once you have completed the application.

Click here for the Safe Hiring Solutions website.  Please select Volunteer Check.

It will be the responsibility of the volunteer to let Mrs. Fuernstein know they have completed the background check.  Please keep in mind the background checks can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks to receive back.

ALL VOLUNTEERS will need to enter the school through the OFFICE, sign in and out on our computerized system and wear the printed name badge while in the building.
